ACADEMIC SUPPORT

As students progress through each grade level, they increasingly have the opportunity to explore their interests through engaging electives and pathways to university. The school guidance counselor is available throughout the year to help students and parents make scheduling choices aligned with students’ preferences and needs. Student Services also proactively communicates with teachers and parents to support students who may be struggling academically. In addition to offering an Academic Skills Group for middle school students, the Student Services team collaborates with community health professionals as needed to support students who may have individual learning challenges.

UNIVERSITY COUNSELING

As students approach senior year, it is important for them to understand the application process and the necessary components of creating a successful application. The guidance counselor works closely with juniors and seniors to ensure they are prepared to submit applications in a timely manner. Additionally, the Student Services team supplies students with information about a wide variety of universities that fit their needs, career goals, and academic record. Students will work closely with the guidance counselor to create the strongest version of their personal statements and letter(s) of recommendation.

PERSONAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

The school guidance counselor is available to support students who may be facing personal challenges that are impacting their learning. Brief school counseling can help students address social challenges with friends, emotional challenges impacting school life, as well as other personal concerns a student may be facing. Students are seen in confidence, and meetings can either be one-on-one or in small groups. The guidance counselor will assist the family with a referral to a community service if longer-term counseling would be beneficial. KMIDS also provides social-emotional educational programming to both students and parents on topics such as communication skills and positive parenting. Above all, the team welcomes open communication with parents and students, no matter the concern.

ADVISORY

Student Services collaborates with KMIDS teachers to provide social-emotional and character education each week through the advisory program. During engaging lessons and activities, students focus on developing character strengths, building life skills, and making strong community connections with their fellow classmates.
