Welcome back everyone to on-site learning for the 2020-2021 academic year. I would like to thank all KMIDS families for your understanding, support, flexibility, and patience during the unprecedented COVID-19 situation. You have played such an important role in our successfully adapting to the new-normal learning style. In addition, I would like to recognize the teachers’ hard work and dedication to our students during this challenging time and express my deepest gratitude to them. Indeed, I could not be prouder of the way the whole KMIDS community has faced the teaching and learning challenges during the lockdown and overcame all obstacles. And I continue to be impressed with the way students and teachers have adjusted to the new on-campus learning environment that ensures the health and safety of everyone through mask wearing and proper social distancing.

I am also very pleased to announce that our student body has grown considerably since last year, including a new class of grade 6 students, which, following the American education model, positions them as part of our middle school (grades 6, 7, & 8). They, as is true of all of our new students, have proven to be marvelous additions to the KMIDS community.

As we have increased in student numbers, we have also expanded the number and variety of courses we offer at KMIDS. For example, additional Advanced Placement classes in science, math, and computers, the development of an Advanced STEM with Robotics Program, and the overwhelming participation in the Medicine and Engineering Pathway Programs have strengthened our already unparalleled STEM curriculum. We, however, are dedicated to broadening our curriculum from STEM to STEAM. The road to achieving this goal has begun by including classes such as Digital Art, Graphic Design, and Multimedia into our high school curriculum. We hold the sincere belief that a STEAM-focused education ensures that our students, who will be the next generation of our society’s leaders, understand the necessary link between critical thinking and creative thinking to effectively address the unique issues of the 21st Century.

Last but not least, KMITL will establish the Phra Chomklao-Chaokun Taharn Hospital. KMIDS families are invited to join the development of this Medical Research Center as one of its founding members.

Regards,

Punnama

THE JUNK BUSTER WINS
“NASA SPACE APP CHALLENGE”

A very big congratulations! to our “Junk Buster Team!” on winning the international championship entitled Virtual Hackathon – NASA Space App Challenge 2020. The challenge was called: Orbital Scrap Metal – The Video Game V2.0.

Our 3 KMIDS students Punthai, Pun and Meepooh, teamed up with 3 seniors from, Surasak Montree, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok and Satit PIM to make the 6-member team.

In only 48 hours they collected all the data needed to create their web-based game, intended to promote the idea of “space environmentalism”. Their objective was to raise awareness of the space waste that is accumulating and that may impact our universe!

GOOD JOB!
CLASS OF 2020 GRADUATES

Prof. Dr. Suchatvee Suwansawat attended the Commencement Ceremony and conferred the diplomas on KMIDS students.

Congratulations!

Alumni Workshops:
"Navigating Your Future Pathway"

In October 2020, KMIDS held its first-ever workshop series on “Navigating Your Future Pathway.” In three events, alumni were invited back to campus to share their university application journey with current students and parents. Specifically, they discussed standardized tests, personal statements, portfolios, and interviews. These insights allowed current students to better understand the rigors of university preparation. Serendipitously, this series brought together KMIDS administrators, teachers, staff, alumni, parents, and students.

The first workshop focused on the medicine pathway. Alumni from the Faculty of Medicine at KMITL, Mahidol, and Navamindradhiraj shared their personal experiences on the MD application.
The second workshop highlighted the engineering field. Alumni from KMITL, Chulalongkorn, Mahidol, Thammasat SIIT, and Chiang Mai University were in attendance to discuss their engineering journey.
The third workshop explored the science, architecture, and business programs. Alumni from KMITL, Chulalongkorn, Mahidol, and Keio University expounded on their various programs.

With such a strong bond, KMIDS continues to collaboratively guide our students toward success. At KMIDS, Discover Life, Discover Future!

Our Scholarship Winner

Congratulations

KMIDS is delighted to announce that Mr. Wikrom Thamchareonkit (Ping)’s research paper has been submitted for publication to ISJOS.

His research paper is beginning the peer-review process by a seismology/geoscience reviewer back in the United States.

The importance in creating an educational seismic network for schools in Pan-Asia

Abstract

Earthquakes are common in Pan-Asia, as many of the countries in this region are likely to be located in a seismically active area. The Pan-Asia region, however, lacks a unified educational learning platform to connect students in studying these earthquakes. In this research, it is showed that creating an educational seismic network for schools in Pan-Asia will probably be beneficial and much more affordable than before. This shows that an effort to create such an educational network should probably be done to help improve the studies of earthquakes in school and to help spread awareness along with information on what the general public should do when a devastating earthquake occurs.

Also, he has been awarded the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarship to attend Keio University in Japan. With his great abilities and outstanding achievements, KMIDS is very proud of him.

CSR Field Trip 2020

As the trip’s name (Corporate Social Responsibility) would indicate, KMIDS students did not just travel, but they were also required to gain knowledge from every aspect which they explored during the trip, and to demonstrate their capabilities in order to yield substantial improvement to local communities.

Ayutthaya Trip
The agricultural concepts regarding ‘Sufficiency Economy’ were introduced to students at Ban Kong Por Sufficiency Economy Learning Center. Following that, the students
fully enjoyed performing creative activities: crafting palm leaf fish, learning animal husbandry and growing rice.

Klong-Khon Eco Trip
The students organized this trip in order to appreciate the important art & culture and valuable way of living of the local community at Klong-Khon, Samut Songkhram. Students joined cultural activities, including Muay Thai, mangrove forest planting, making tie-dye fabric with color from natural materials, and producing coconut sugar through native methods.

“As KMIDS realizes that acquiring knowledge from classrooms is not the only necessary part of the ‘educational journey’, our students have to be explorers travelling to many important parts of their adventures, and learn to say ‘Hello’ to newness.”

LET THERE BE LIGHT!

G12 Research Methods – Collaborative learning, sharing and applying prior knowledge, and newly gained hands-on experience in the use of colorimeters and spectrophotometers – students use their knowledge of the electromagnetic spectra, the absorbance and transmission of visible light, and Beers Law to determine/generate:
1) λmax and absorption spectra for different compounds
2) the chemical composition of mixtures of dyes
3) calibration curves for different compounds
4) the concentration of food dyes in different soft drinks
5) the concentration of unknown samples.

Our Arduino class allows students to interconnect the physical world with the digital world. Here, students are learning to control a servo motor with an analog sensor and how to resolve difficulties along the way. Students write and verify their program code, too.
